This new and expansive monograph documents four weeks that I spent on the truly magical island of Unst, the most northerly of the Shetland Isles over the course of two trips in 2018 and 2019. This high-resolution eBook is designed to be viewed on tablet, laptop or desktop for the best experience. The eBook is 66 pages in total, featuring 50 black + white photographs; plus bonus chapter 'Colours of Unst' featuring 14 colour photographs. Also included are 8 text pages, consisting of journal entries and thoughts from this wild and rugged island.

What people are saying:

“I thoroughly enjoyed this monograph, packed with photographs that embrace the rugged nature of Unst’s wind-carved landscapes.

Karl’s monochrome images, in particular, feel raw and powerful, capturing the island’s wild energy - battered cottages, fierce seas, endless winds - and avoiding the usual ‘pretty’ postcard views in favour of ordinary details like weathered telegraph poles or fading footprints.

The short diary entries add another dimension, demonstrating how these stripped-back, harsh places can paradoxically offer a sense of calm and perspective, reminding us of our modest place within something infinitely larger.

The ebook format is a good choice: affordable, accessible, and especially relevant at a time when major social platforms are becoming increasingly unfriendly to still photography.” - Andrew Mahon.

“Following his previous work Forest Visions, the new release Where the North Winds Blow once again drew me deeply into his artistic world.

In fact, Forest Visions was my first experience viewing a photo collection in eBook format. I hadn't expected to be so moved by photographs on a screen

-but I was immediately struck by the clarity and beauty that came through.

Naturally, I chose to view Where the North Winds Blow on the larger screen from the start.

The emotional journey-from the monochrome images in the first half to the vivid color photographs in the second-left me speechless.

In today's world, it's easy to view images on a phone.

But for me, his work deserves to be appreciated on a screen large enough to truly feel its depth. I believe the eBook format suits our era well, especially for photography. There have been times when I was so moved by an exhibition that I purchased the photo book-only to feel disappointed when the printed pages couldn't quite recapture that magic. With an eBook, however, that emotional connection can remain intact." Mariko Saito, Tokyo.
