Online Tuition
Karl has been running creative photography workshops professionally since 2015. During this time it has become evident that the main objective for students is the will to find their own voice and to produce photographs with 'impact'. Of course the technical aspects of photography are essential, and we can certainly work on those. More important and challenging is to develop one's own aesthetic and to help you evoke your thoughts and feelings around a particular location or subject. Teaching photography at the highest level, most recently as Visiting Professor at renowned Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Karl's strengths as a mentor ensure that you will gain a new way of seeing. Helping you develop on your own photographic journey is a priority for these online sessions. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, it brings me pure joy to be able to assist photographers around the globe on their own personal photographic journey.
Post Processing - Beginner/Intermediate.
There are no rules in the digital darkroom. However, the art of post processing is one which is best approached with subtlety and vision. Whether you're a beginner that's new to working with RAW files, layers, levels and curves or a more experienced user seeking to evolve a coherent style, get in touch via the message box below and we will tailor a session specifically for you. Additionally we will arrange a suitable date and time. All tuition will be via Zoom.

Master Your Camera Settings - Beginner/Intermediate.
You've picked up your new camera (or even an old one!) and you're excited to begin your creative journey. However, you find yourself scratching your head at the sheer number of dials, buttons and exhaustive menus and features. You are not alone! Let me simplify all of this, giving you the confidence to head out with a clear mind and focus on what's really important, composing your images.

The Art of Composition
There are many factors which make for engaging images and composition is surely one of the most important. It’s a subject which is of course completely subjective, and this tutorial can be taken as my own personal ethos, which can be considered a guide. I don’t believe in rules as such! We’ll begin with a few thoughts on why composition is important, starting with the simplification of a scene. We'll also look at geometry and the all important negative space. For me, rhythm is also very important. I'll discuss my unique 'Visual Mantra' technique, which is how we lead the eye around an image. We’ll also look at working with light and tone, crucial elements in any photograph. This session is proven with students around the world.

Black + White Fine Art Print Masterclass.
4 x 1-2-1 Zoom sessions at agreed dates, plus online support.
Suitable for photographers of any level from beginner to professional wanting to achieve the highest quality, archival black + white prints.
This 1-2-1 Masterclass will demystify the dark art of black + white fine art printing. From image capture through to calibration, post-processing, proof set-up and final print, I will guide you through the entire process. Helping you to eliminate potential years of trial and error, this course will provide you with the knowledge you need to give your photographs the life they deserve. Working with Projects - 1 Year Course (online, Zoom, 1-2-1 tuition)
Suitable for photographers of any level from beginner to expert/professional.
As photographers, the chances are that at some point you’re going to want to collate your work into some kind of themed project. It is very rewarding to tell a story from a nicely thought out series of images, which form a coherent body of work. All of the projects that I have worked on have been published in the leading photographic press, much to my own surprise. I put this down to many reasons, which I will discuss during this 1 year project, consisting of 6 online sessions. For me, teaching has become an incredibly rewarding conduit for sharing my knowledge and passion for photography and I'm excited to be offering this online course.
