Dorset Jurassic Coast - Coastal Visions 1 Day Creative Photography Workshop

It is quite rare that I venture south for my workshops, but when I do I am always reminded just how magnificent the coastline of Dorset really is. I am looking forward to returning to this world-class destination for the first time since 2019! All of the workshops that I've run here have been very memorable, both for the wonderful participants and the beautiful, varied conditions.

What will you learn?

I keep the groups small for good reason. People are always at differing levels and experience. Whilst some participants struggle with the technical aspects of seascape photography, others may prefer more guidance when it comes to composition and really seeing the motifs in the landscape. We will approach the day in a mindful and relaxing way, aiming to really connect with this unique and powerful location.

What will you need?

A curious and open mind. When it comes to kit, some people like to pack every lens they have, which is fine. Personally I like to keep things simple; perhaps a 24-105mm being my preferred choice. A lens such as this allows us to react quickly in changeable conditions. Fumbling around changing lenses, particularly when the weather turns, can be stressful. However, occasionally I like to work with a 40 or 50mm prime. We may have to work harder in this way but it can make the experience more immersive in some ways. Filters are obviously useful for seascapes and long exposures/ICM (intentional camera movement). And finally, a sturdy tripod.

Please note; participants for this workshop should be used to walking. It can often feel very tiring if the elements are in full force whilst walking on sand and by the coast on the cliffs in foul weather, although rough conditions often yield dramatic photographs! You don't need to be superhuman however, and the pace will be very leisurely indeed.

Please bring a packed lunch/drink for the day and suitable outdoor clothing to protect you from the very varied conditions, good walking boots and a waterproof coat being essential items.

This workshop will take place on Monday 20th October (8:45am - 3:00pm) and will be limited to 4 participants so you get plenty of tuition throughout the day.

Cost £150 per person - 4 places available
